Apis mellifera caucasica originates in the Caucasus region. Caucasian bees are generally gentle, have long tongues and build up slowly in spring. Heavy propolis production can make inspections harder.
Before choosing this stock
Winter-performance claims differ among extension references; cold-climate origin alone does not guarantee excellent survival in every apiary. Ask the breeder about local results, disease history and propolis use.
Traits vary with breeding, mating, local conditions and management. A stock name does not guarantee temperament, winter survival or freedom from Varroa. Check breeder records and monitor your own colonies.
