Heat and Mites on Adult Bees — Two Studies Outside Capped Brood

Reviewed notes and corrections

Harbo’s study used caged adult bees at 40°C, with food, water and oil-coated boards that trapped fallen mites. Its 97.4% at 24 hours and 100% at 48 hours are mite-removal results; they do not establish that heat alone killed every mite. Cage size, comb and humidity changed the outcome. These results are not a validated whole-hive 106°F protocol.
