Varroa Doesn’t Just Feed on Bees — The Mite–Virus Connection

Reviewed notes and corrections

Varroa damages hosts through feeding and through its association with virus transmission and amplification. Feeding tissue depends on host stage: the 2024 work supports fat-body access on adults and predominantly hemolymph feeding on pupae. Clinical signs alone do not diagnose every virus or measure the colony’s mite load; use monitoring and appropriate diagnostic advice.
